Ceremony in Praça do Império
At the beginning of the State Visit to Portugal, the President of the Republic welcomed the President of Mozambique, Armando Emílio Guebuza, near the Jerónimos Monastery, where the ceremonial military honours were held.
After the ceremony, President Armando Emílio Guebuza stepped into the Chapel of the Jerónimos Monastery, where he laid a wreath of flowers on the tomb of Luís Vaz de Camões.
Later, in the Palace of Belém, the two couples met together before the formal meeting between the two Heads of State, after which the two Presidents made declarations to the media.
This was followed by luncheon hosted by the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva in honour of the President of Mozambique and Mrs. Maria da Luz Guebuza.
