President received children from São Jorge
The President of the Republic arrived in Strasbourg by car, on his way from Prague to Lisbon, due to the closure of European air space for a number of days caused by the ash clouds originated by the eruption of a volcano in Iceland.
The Presidential retinue also travelled by land from Prague to Strasbourg, in coaches that also carried a group of six children and two teachers from the Azores, who had been retained in the Czech capital due to the closure of the local airport.
This group of children, from Velas Basic School on the Island of São Jorge on the Azores Archipelago, had taken part, in Prague, in the project "ABC Book of Young Europeans", included in the Communius Programme, financed by the European Union.
