The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva will carry out a visit to the Autonomous Community of Catalonia on 4 and 5 March instant, to be followed by a Visit to the Portuguese Community resident in the Principality of Andorra, from 5 to 7 March.

On March 4, in Barcelona, the President of the Republic will hold a convivial meeting with members of the Portuguese Community resident in Catalonia, after which he will meet with the President of the Generalitat, José Montilla, who will host a dinner in his honour.

On March 5, President Aníbal Cavaco Silva will deliver an address at the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation, in his quality as guest of honour to the inaugural ceremony of the Barcelona Iberian Forum.

Following this he will visit the Biomedical Research Park – a centre of excellence in the field of scientific research where several Portuguese researchers collaborate – and will finalize his visit attending, together with the President of the Generalitat, the inaugural act of the new headquarters of Bankpime, a Catalonian banking institution whose majority shareholder is the Portuguese Bank BANIF.

The Visit of the President of the Republic to the Portuguese Community resident in the Principality of Andorra – which, last November, lived through difficult moments due to an accident occurred in the Dels Dos Valires Tunnel – follows that which he carried out to several other Portuguese Communities, celebrating the anniversaries of his mandate.

The programme organized for this visit includes contacts with students and teachers of Portuguese, representatives of the Council of the Portuguese Communities and of the Portuguese Associations of Andorra, and to the families of the victims of the Dels Dos Valires Tunnel accident, as well as a “fado” concert, this to be followed by a reception in the honour of the Portuguese Community.

The official part of the programme covers meetings with the Co-Prince of Andorra and Bishop of Urgel, who will host an official luncheon in honour of the Head of State and Mrs. Cavaco Silva, as well as with the Speaker of Parliament and with the Mayor of Andorra la Vella.

The Visit will end on Sunday, 7 March, with a tribute paid by the Andorran authorities to the victims of the Dels Dos Valires accident, to be held on the site where it occurred, in which the President of the Republic will take part.

The President of the Republic will be accompanied by the Secretary of State for the Portuguese Communities and by the Secretary of State for Energy and Innovation, as well as by the Members of Parliament elected by the European Electoral College.
