At the invitation of the President of the Republic, Their Majesties the King and Queen of Jordan will hold an Official Visit to Portugal on 16 and 17 March. The Jordanian retinue will include several members of the Government, as well as a significant entrepreneurial mission.
King Abdullah II and Queen Rania will be received in the Palace of Belém by the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva, who will host a Banquet in their honour in the Palace of Ajuda. The official programme will also include meetings with the Speaker of Parliament and with the Prime Minister.
An entrepreneurial seminar will equally take place with the objective of deepening the relations in this field between Portugal and Jordan.
Also to be held during the visit, in Parliament, will be the ceremony of the award of the North-South Prize, which will be attended by President and Mrs. Cavaco Silva, and which distinguishes, this year, the images and contributions of Her Majesty Queen Rania and of the former President of the Portuguese Republic, Dr. Jorge Sampaio.
President and Mrs. Cavaco Silva made an Official Visit to Jordan in February 2008, the first official visit of a Portuguese Head of State to that country, opening doors to the strengthening of the current bilateral relationship.
