Invited by President Lech Kaczynski, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva will visit Poland from 2 to 4 September next, travelling to Warsaw and Krakow.

The President of the Republic will be accompanied by members of the Government and by a relevant entrepreneurial deputation.

The programme for the Visit will include meetings with the President of the Republic of Poland, with the Speakers of the Chamber of Deputies and of the Senate, with the Prime Minister and with the leader of the Opposition.

The two Heads of State will preside at the closure of a Seminar on the economic relations between Portugal and Poland, with the attendance of entrepreneurs from both countries, and will officially open an Exhibition on Portuguese Technological Innovation, which will be held in the Museum of Science and Technology.

Poland already is the main destination of Portuguese investments in Eastern Europe. The President of the Republic will visit Shop #1000 of the Biedronka Supermarket Chain, owned by the Jerónimo Martins Group.

President Kaczynnski and his Lady will host a banquet in the honour of President and Mrs. Cavaco Silva, who will return the invitation with a concert featuring the “fado” singer Mariza, to be held in the Warsaw National Theatre, followed by a reception.

In Krakow, site of the Archbishopric earlier presided by Pope John Paul II, the President of the Republic will deliver a speech concerning the European Union, at the invitation of Jagiellona University, one of the oldest seats of learning in Europe.

On September 4 and 5, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva will be in Bratislava, on a Visit to the Slovak Republic, at the invitation of President Ivan Gasparovic.

The Programme will include audiences with the main political figures of the Country, as well as an Economic Seminar which will be officially closed by the Presidents of the Portuguese and Slovak Republics. The Slovak republic is the Member State of the European Union with highest growth rates, and its adhesion to the Euro is expected in January of the coming year.

The President of the Republic will officially open an Exhibition on Portuguese Contemporary Art, which will be open to the public in the Slovakian capital, and will return the dinner to be hosted by his counterpart, with a concert featuring the singer Mariza, to be held in the Bratislava Symphonic Theatre, followed by a reception.
