During his coming visit to Brazil, at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, His Excellency the President of the Republic decided to honour the following individualities, in recognition for their contribution towards the strengthening of the relations between Portugal and Brazil, through the promotion and organization of the commemorations of the Bicentenary of the Arrival of the Portuguese Court:

Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Sérgio Cabral de Oliveira Santos Filho – Grand Cross of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator

Governor of Baía, Jaques Wagner - Grand Cross of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator

Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, César Epitácio Maia - Grand Cross of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator

President of the Commission for the Rio de Janeiro Commemorations, Ambassador Alberto Vasconcellos da Costa e Silva – Grand Cross of the Order of Sant’Iago da Espada

Coordinator of the Baía Commemorations, Prof. Doctor Ubiratan Castro de Araújo - Grand Cross of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator

Director of the National History Museum, Dr. Vera Lúcia Bottrel Tostes - Grand Cross of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator

Municipal Secretary for Culture, Member of the Rio Commission, Architect Ricardo Macieira – Grand Officer of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator

Municipal Secretary for Heritage, Member of the Rio Commission, Dr. André Luiz Meuzer Zambelli - Grand Officer of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator

Secretary for International Relations of Salvador Municipality, Member of the Baía Commemorations Commission, Dr. Leonel Leal Neto - Grand Officer of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator

In addition to these individualities, the President of the Republic also decided to honour President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva with the Grand Cross with Collar of the Military Order “Torre e Espada”, of Value, Loyalty and Merit, created by King John VI, after his arrival in Rio de Janeiro, and Mrs. Marisa Letícia Lula da Silva, with the Grand Cross of the Military Order of Christ.
