The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva will pay a State Visit to Mozambique, from 24 to 26 March 2008, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Armando Emílio Guebuza. This will be the first State Visit of the President of the Republic to an African country of Portuguese antecedence.

The President of the Republic’s retinue will include some 40 entrepreneurs, representing the more dynamic sectors of the Portuguese economy, selected on the grounds of the interest shown for the Mozambican market.

During his presence in Mozambique, the President of the Republic will maintain political meetings with the President of the Republic of Mozambique, will deliver a speech in a solemn ceremony in the Mozambican Parliament, and will grant audiences to the leader of biggest opposition political party and to several other local leaders and authorities. These meetings will permit an assessment of the state of the bilateral relations and how best to approach the most adequate strategies for their strengthening.

The President of the Republic will address the opening of the conference “Portuguese, a Global Language”, which will be held in the Eduardo Mondlane University Cultural Centre, in which a number of Portuguese and Mozambican individualities of differing areas will take part, including authors, musicians, professors, students and researchers.




During his visit, President Aníbal Cavaco Silva will also speak at an economic seminar between Portuguese and Mozambican entrepreneurs, and will officially open an exhibition on the theme “Portugal-Innovation”.

On the third day of his stay, the President will visit the Island of Mozambique and the Maputo Portuguese School, where he will host a reception to the Portuguese and Luso-Mozambican communities.
