National Day of Portugal celebrated in Porto

Commemorations of the National Day of Portugal highlighted by a grand military parade and by the President’s traditional speech

During the National Day of Portugal, Camões and Portuguese Communities, which is celebrated this year in Porto, the President of the Republic addressed a speech to the Armed Forces and assisted to a grandiose parade of the three branches of the armed forces, which took place in Avenida do Brasil / Castelo do Queijo.

After receiving the greetings of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Portugal in the Porto Customs Buildings, President Cavaco Silva addressed the traditional speech of June 10, and awarded medals to 26 personalities who had achieved distinction in their areas of activity.

The official programme of the National Day of Portugal ended with a luncheon hosted by Porto Municipality, which was finalized by a show provided by two university student musical ensembles at the doors of the Palace of the County Council, honouring the President of the Republic and Mrs. Maria Cavaco Silva.
