The President of the Republic met, in New York, citizens of Portuguese origin who had been involved in the post 11 September rescue and reconstruction operations.

Meeting with Ban Ki-Moon
The President of the Republic held a meeting with the United Nations Secretary General, on the occasion of the first open debate meeting of the United Nations Security Council under Portuguese presidency.
Portugal holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council during the current month of November
President Aníbal Cavaco Silva had previously presided at the Council’s meeting.
Nations Security Council
The President of the Republic presided, in New York, at the first open debate meeting of the UN Security Council, during the Portuguese presidency of this body of the United Nations.
Opening of the Educational Centre
The President of the Republic held a visit to the County of Nelas, where he opened the Nelas Educational Centre and later went round the S. Miguel Home of the Nelas Parish Social Solidarity Centre.
Ceremony in the new Cultural Centre
The President of the Republic attended the ceremony that celebrated the passing of the 175th anniversary of the County of Carregal do Sal, and presided at the inaugural act of the new Cultural Centre where the event was held.
