Meeting with the Justice Minister
In the terms of the Constitution and in line with the legislation in force, the President of the Republic received the Minister of Justice, today, in order to grant pardons, as is traditional at this time of the year.
As such, 93 requests for pardon were appraised this year.
Considering the views of the Magistrates of the Sentencing Courts, of the Prison Directors, of the reports from the prison departments and from the departments of social insertion, and the Government’s proposals, the President of the Republic decided to grant 3 pardons – two prison sentences and one expulsion sentence.
The clemency measures granted were based on humanitarian reasons.
It should be stressed that the decisions concerning the remaining requests for pardon took into consideration the number of unfavourable opinions issued, thus not fulfilling the required conditions.
