Beginning of Celebrations in Lamego

President of the Republic at the raising of the National Standard in the City of Lamego to commence the Celebrations of the National Day of Portugal

At the beginning of the celebrations of National Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, the President of the Republic attended, in Visconde Guedes Teixeira Avenue, the raising of the National Standard, next the Cathedral and fronting the Stairway of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remédios, which dominates the central zone of the city.

Following this ceremony, President Cavaco Silva rendered tribute, in Camões Square, to D. Miguel of Portugal, ancient Bishop of Lamego and the city’s Primary Effigy.

Later, the President walked to the Church of Chagas Monastery, currently under restoration, which he visited and attended a performance of the Chorus of Jerónimo Cardoso Senior University.
