On board aircraft P-3C
The President of the Republic visited Air Force Base No. 6, in Montijo, to become familiar with the New Capabilities of the Air Force.
As included in the event’s programme, President Cavaco Silva boarded a flight in aircraft P-3C, attached to Squadron 601 – “Lobos” (Wolves), headquartered in Air Force Base no. 11, in Beja, during which he was able to view a demonstration of some of the operating capacities and technological aptitude of this weapons system.
The Presidential party included the Minister of National Defence, the Chief of the Armed Forces General Staff, the Deputy and National Defence Secretary of State and the Chief of the Air Force General Staff.
During the event, the President of the Republic had the opportunity to attend a presentation regarding the Air Force New Capabilities and become familiar with the panoply of missions that the most recent equipment provide to this branch of the Armed forces.
He also took the opportunity to highlight the important role that the Air Force and, more particularly, its flight squadrons have played in the Country and abroad, representing and dignifying the Armed Forces and Portugal.
