Activities in Madeira Natural Park
The President of the Republic visited Greater “Selvagem” Island, where he received a presentation of the Nature protection activities being carried out by the Wardens of the “Selvagem” Islands Natural Reserve, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the first scientific expedition that took place in this sub-archipelago of the Madeira Autonomous Region.
After landing on the island, President Cavaco Silva attended the launching, by the Portuguese Post Office, of commemorative postcards and stamp.
Later, he met with physician and ornithologist Francis Zino, who took part in the first scientific expedition and who showed photographic documents concerning the research missions carried out.
President Cavaco Silva stayed overnight in Greater “Selvagem” Island, the first Portuguese Head of State who did so.
