President of the Republic empowers new Secretaries of State

The President of the Republic accepted the proposal put forward by the Prime Minister regarding the discharge of Secretaries of State and appointment of new office holders.

Officers discharged are the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Prof. Doctor Luis Brites Pereira, Assistant Secretary of State and for National Defence, Dr. Paulo Braga Lino, and the Assistant Secretary of State of the Minister for Internal Administration, Eng. Juvenal Silva Peneda.

Appointed officers will be Dr. Francisco Xavier de Almeida Leite, as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Dr. Berta Maria de Almeida de Melo Cabral, as Assistant Secretary of State and for National Defence, Prof. Doctor Fernando Manuel de Almeida Alexandre, as Assistant Secretary of State of the Miniter for Internal Administration, Master António Egrejas Leitão Amaro, as Secretary of State for Local Administration and Dr. Manuel Castro Almeida, as Secretary of State for Local Development.

The Empowerment ceremony of the new Secretaries of State will be held today, 22 April, at 19:00 hours, in the Palace of Belém.
