The President of the Republic addressed a message of congratulations to the President elect of the Republic of Korea, Park Gesun-hye.
Following is the text of the message sent by President Cavaco Silva:
“Madam President elect,
On the occasion of Your Excellency’s election as President of the Republic of Korea I wish to convey, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our warmest congratulations and best wishes of success in carrying out the high office of President of the Republic.
I recall, with appreciation, our meeting in May 2011, when Your Excellency held the post of Special Envoy of the former President of the Republic of Korea.
It is therefore with much anticipation that I look to the future of our bilateral relations during Your Excellency’s mandate. I am certain we will jointly find new opportunities for the development and the strengthening of the deep bonds of friendship and cooperation that unite our two countries, in the best interest of our Peoples.
I wish to reassure Your Excellency of my personal commitment to this purpose.
I ask you to please accept, Madam President elect, our sincere wishes for Your Excellency’s personal wellbeing and for the prosperity and progress of the People of the Republic of Korea.
