The President of the Republic sent a congratulatory message to the new president of the Republic of India, Pranab Mukherjee, upon the beginning of his taking office.
Following is the text of the congratulatory message sent by President Cavaco Silva:
“Mister President,
On the occasion of Your Excellency’s investiture as President of the Republic of India, I want to address you, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our warmest congratulations and wishes for success in the high offices you have been called upon to perform.
I am certain that, during Your Excellency’s mandate, the secular relations of friendship and cooperation between Portugal and India will continue being strengthened and deepened, for the benefit of both our Peoples.
I beg you to accept, Mister President, our sincere wishes for Your Excellency’s personal well being and for the growing prosperity and progress of the People of India.
