The President of the Republic addressed a message of congratulations to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, on the occasion of the celebrations of her Diamond Jubilee and official commemoration of her birthday.
Following is the text of the congratulatory message addressed by President Cavaco Silva
“Majesty,
On the occasion of the official commemoration of Your Majesty’s birthday, I am particularly pleased, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, to offer You our warmest congratulations, as well as our sincere wishes for your personal well being and growing prosperity for the Royal Family and the British People.
On this occasion of justified joy for the People of the United Kingdom on which, along with the anniversary commemorations, Your Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee is equally celebrated, I am very pleased to signal the driven, constructive and stable way in which we have known how to strengthen the secular bonds of friendship between our countries and peoples. I am certain that we will be able, jointly, to continue enriching this common heritage.
Renewing my congratulations, I beg Your Majesty to accept my very highest regards and personal esteem.
