The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of the composer and interpreter Bernardo Sassetti.
Following is the text of the message of condolences sent by President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:
"I was deeply saddened by the news of the passing away of Bernardo Sassetti.
Composer and interpreter, Bernardo Sassetti was one of the most talented Portuguese musicians of all times. Solo or with accompanists, his virtuosity was always outstanding, whether interpreting his own compositions or those of other musicians. In his many performances in Portugal or in the World, Bernardo Sassetti was always a notable representative of our culture.
Thus it is that, on behalf of the people of Portugal, and in my wife’s and my own personal names, I address our deepest condolences to his bereaved family.
His so premature disappearance leaves Portuguese music and culture considerably poorer. His work and his great talent remain with us forever.
