The President of the Republic addressed a message of congratulations to the President elect of the French Republic, François Hollande.

Following is the text of the congratulatory message sent by President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:

“Mister President,

Upon being advised of Your Excellency’s election as President of the French Republic, I beg you to accept, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our warmest congratulations and wishes for the greatest success in the exercise of the exalted responsibilities which have been entrusted to you.

I am certain that, during Your Excellency’s mandate, the bonds of friendship and cooperation that link our two countries will find renewed opportunities of being strengthened and deepened, both bilaterally and within the framework of the European Union, counting upon the inestimable contribution of the numerous Portuguese and Portuguese descendant community that lives and works in France.

I want, on this occasion, to express my availability and personal drive to work jointly with Your Excellency in that direction, in the conviction that a closer partnership between Portugal and France is in the best interest of our two Peoples and Countries.

Reiterating to Your Excellency my warmest congratulations, I beg you to accept my best wishes for your personal welfare and for the growing progress of the People of France.
