The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of MEP Miguel Portas.
Following is the text of the message of condolences from President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:
“Upon being advised of the passing away of the Member of the European Parliament Miguel Portas I address the bereaved Family my deepest condolences
A Portuguese citizen of the world, Miguel Portas was a man of principles and ideals, for which he fought and intervened eminently in the national and European public life.
I pay tribute to the journalist, author and political personage, who maintained a remarkable civic presence in different moments of the Country’s life and a driving activity in the European Parliament.
