Following the meeting that the President called to be held with a deputation of Solidarity Institutions, the Presidency of the Republic publishes the following notice:

“The President of the Republic held a working meeting today with representatives of social solidarity institutions, aiming to obtain information concerning the Country’s social situation and the role performed by these organizations in providing aid to the most needy and unprotected Portuguese families and citizens, within the panorama of economic and financial crisis situation Portugal is going through.

Attending the meeting were representatives of the Union of Portuguese Almshouses, of the Union of Portuguese Mutual Societies, of Caritas Portugal, of the National Confederation of Solidarity Institutions, and of the Federation of Food Banks against Hunger.

The President of the Republic praised the extraordinary effort developed by those institutions in providing answers to the significant increase in the demands they are receiving, notwithstanding the decrease of financial resources available to them and the perspective of greater containment with which they are being faced”.
