President visited Câmara de Lobos
Beginning his visits to the various counties of the Madeira Autonomous Region, the President of the Republic went to Ribeira Brava, where he viewed the Ethnographic Museum, and to Câmara de Lobos, where he was shown the refurbishment project of the area of the “Praça da Autonomia” (Square of the Autonomy).
Lunch with the Regional Government
The President of the Republic met the members of the Madeira Government during luncheon, during which matters were discussed concerning the various areas of government activity in the Autonomous Region.
Included in the programme of the President of the Republic’s visit to the Madeira Autonomous Region, Mrs. Cavaco Silva visited the Funchal Botanical Gardens.
Meeting with entrepreneurs and farmers
During the third day of his visit to the Madeira Autonomous Region, the President of the Republic held separate meetings with representatives of the local entrepreneurs and farmers.
Concert in Funchal
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva attended, in the capital of Madeira, the Commemorative Concert of the 500 Years of the City of Funchal, performed by the Madeira Classic Orchestra and by singer Kátia Guerreiro.
Meeting in the Palace of São Lourenço
Within the programme of his visit to the Autonomous Region, the President of the Republic received in audience, in the Palace of São Lourenço, in Funchal, the President of the Regional Government of Madeira, Dr. Alberto João Jardim.
Visit to the exhibition
The President of the Republic opened officially, in the Chancellery of the University of Madeira, in Funchal, an exhibition covering the heritage of the Madeira Autonomous Region.
Award of the City’s Gold Medal
On the second day of his visit to the Madeira Autonomous Region, the President of the Republic took part in the Commemorative Ceremony of the 500 Years of the City of Funchal, held in the Council Hall of the capital of Madeira.
At the entrance to Parliament
The President of the Republic was welcomed in the Madeira Parliament where the Speaker of this regional body, Dr. Miguel Mendonça, and his wife, hosted a dinner in his honour and that of Mrs. Cavaco Silva.
Arrival in Funchal
The President of the Republic began a visit to the Madeira Autonomous Region by addressing a message of greetings to the people of Madeira and Porto Santo, as well as to the natives of Madeira spread around the world.
