Farewell in Funchal Airport
Upon the completion of the visit that took place during six days, to the Madeira Autonomous Region, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva received farewell compliments from the regional authorities and travelled back to Lisbon.
Dinner in Quinta Vigia
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva were honoured at a dinner, held in Quinta da Vigia, in Funchal, hosted by the President of the Madeira Regional Government, Dr. Alberto João Jardim, and his wife.
Littoral refurbishment in Machico
During the last day of his visit to the Madeira Autonomous Region, the President of the Republic viewed the John dos Passos Cultural Centre, in Vila da Ponta do Sol, the Arts Centre - Casa das Mudas, in Calheta, the county of Santa Cruz and the Industrial Free Zone, and also the refurbishment project of the Machico littoral area.
Meeting with the media
Whilst still in Funchal, the President of the Republic held a meeting with the media to speak about his visit to the Madeira Autonomous Region.
Visit to the new hotel
The President of the Republic visited the island of Porto Santo, where he was welcomed in the County Hall, viewed the Porto Santo Golf, officially opened the Pestana Palace Hotel, and watched over a presentation of Colombo's Resort, a new hotel project under construction.
Reception in Porto Moniz
President Aníbal Cavaco Silva visited the Life Science Centre, in Porto Moniz, and the Vulcanology Centre in S. Vicente, after which he officially opened, in the quarters of the Regional Government, in Funchal, an exhibition of the Museum of the Presidency of the Republic dedicated to the Presidents of the Republic.
Meeting with local authorities in Santana
The President of the Republic met and had lunch with the Mayors of the Counties of Madeira e do Porto Santo, within the programme of his visit to the Autonomous Region.
Ribeiro Frio fish nurseries
As programmed for his visit to Madeira, the President of the Republic visited the Meia Serra Solid Waste Treatment Plant, the Ribeiro Frio Aquaculture Centre and the Madeira Theme Park.
Mrs. Cavaco Silva visited the Diocesan Caritas of Madeira, where she became acquainted with the Institution’s activities and met with the staff and voluntary workers.
President’s addresses speech
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva attended, in Funchal, in the Palace of São Lourenço, a dinner hosted by the Representative of the Republic, Councillor Antero Monteiro Diniz and his wife.
