On the occasion of being awarded, by the local University, with a Degree Honoris Causa, the President of the Republic will travel to León, in Spain, on February 10 and 11.
Accompanied by Mrs. Cavaco Silva, the President has the opportunity for two visits of a cultural nature, to the Royal Collegiate of San Isidoro and to León Cathedral, at the invitation of the local authorities.
On that same day, President Aníbal Cavaco Silva will attend the opening ceremony of the Meeting of the Chancellors of the Centre North of Portugal and of the Public Universities of Castilla and León, of Spain. Participants in this meeting will be the Chancellors of the Portuguese Universities of Aveiro, Beira Interior, Coimbra, Minho, Porto and Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, as well as their colleagues from Burgos, León, Salamanca and Valladolid.
Finalizing the first day of his visit to the city, the President will meet the Portuguese students attending courses in León University.
The Princes of Asturias, Don Felipe de Borbón and Doña Letizia, will attend the ceremony where the Degree Honoris Causa will be awarded by León University (Faculty of Economic and Entrepreneurial Sciences), which will be held in the City Auditorium, during which President Cavaco Silva will address his dissertation.
A meeting with the Mayor of León will precede the last stage of the President’s visit, in which he will be awarded the City’s Gold Medal, in the Consistory of San Marcelo, previous quarters of the City Council.
