Agro-Mancelos – Dairy Farm Operated by Manuela Marinho and José António Teixeira

Agro-Mancelos is a family owned dairy farm, located in the Region of Entre Douro e Minho, district of Porto, county of Amarante, parish of Mancelos, and has been active for 13 years.

The farm is managed by the couple, Manuela Marinho, 34 and José António Teixeira, 37, who improved their academic and professional skills through the Agricultural Professional Training programme.
The farm has a social area of 1ha and a Usable Agricultural Area of 22ha of which 18ha are irrigated land.

The operation started in 1995 with only 19 milk cows, and with an average annual production of 6,600 litres per animal. Currently it has a 900,000 kg Milk Quota, and 220 animals of which 123 cows are under growing conditions and 97 are in production, with an average production of 9,600 litres per animal/year.

The production sold has been increasing year by year, from 130,000 kg in 1995 to 730,000 kg in 2007. The estimate for 2008 is 920,000 kg.

Agro-Mancelos has been a pioneer in its activity, becoming updated with the introduction of the latest technologies and innovations for dairy farms and benefiting for that purpose from Community Agricultural Aid.

It has taken part in national and international stock farming competitions with excellent results.
