The central reference of the Route to Inclusion is the speech given by His Excellency the President of the Republic in the Solemn Session of the Assembly of the Republic, commemorating the 32nd Anniversary of the 25 April. Each topic or problem touched on in this speech corresponds to a visit or initiative, the objectives of which are to become directly aware of and to promote good practices in fighting social exclusion, mobilising people’s will and capacity for initiative so that these examples can be replicated, waking Portuguese society up to a greater social awareness and responsibility, geared towards individual and collective action.

The Route to Inclusion began with a Campaign dedicated to the “Peripheral Regions, Aging and Exclusion” the programme for which took place on 29 and 30 May 2006. Up to the end of the first quarter of 2007 more Campaigns are planned dedicated to:

• Children at Risk and Domestic Violence;
• Voluntary Work and Social Exclusion in Urban Environments;
• Disabled people: education, training and professional insertion;
• Unemployment, Reconversion and Reinsertion of Active Population. Digital Inclusion.
