The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of author and plastic artist Ann Hatherley.
Following is the text of the Message from President Cavaco Silva:
“Upon receiving the news of the death of Ann Hatherley, I address my deepest condolences to her bereaved Family and friends.
Known for her originality and permanent innovation featured in her trajectory, both in poetry and in plastic arts, Ann Hatherley was simultaneously a thorough connoisseur of the History of Portuguese Literature, on which she lectured in several universities and disseminated through pioneering studies and publications which are nowadays works of reference.
With the passing away of Ann Hatherley, Portuguese culture and universality lost one of the figures which better represented, amongst us, throughout the latter decades, creative artistry as an expression of freedom.
Aníbal Cavaco Silva”
