President of the Republic congratulated Hélia Correia for award of Camões Prize

The President of the Republic sent a message of congratulations to authoress Hélia Correia for having been awarded the Camões Prize.

Following is the text of the message from President Cavaco Silva:

“Upon receiving the news of the award of the Camões Prize to the works of Hélia Correia, I express my pleasure with the jury’s decision and my wishes for your work to continue, as until now, bringing prestige to Portuguese culture and to contribute towards the wealth of the literary heritage of our language.

Due to its sensitivity to history and to the contemporary world, to the virtuosity of her writing, the entire work of Hélia Correia in fiction, poetry and theatrical plays are the clear prolificacy of Portuguese as a language of culture, which renews itself in each generation and is reinvented in each of the great authors that express themselves in it.

The recognition of Hélia Correia’s in the universe of Lusophone literature, through the Camões Prize, is a reason of satisfaction and pride for the Portuguese. I thus want to address my most sincere congratulations to the authoress and wish her the best possible happiness.

Aníbal Cavaco Silva”
