The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the family of Counsellor José Menéres Pimentel
Following is the text of the message sent by President Cavaco Silva:
“Upon being advised of the passing away of Counsellor Menéres Pimentel, I address the bereaved Family my deepest condolences.
A distinguished jurist, a citizen driven in the defence of democracy, of freedom and of the fundamental rights, José Menéres Pimentel held relevant public offices, where he always left a mark of his deep attachment to Justice and to the dignity of the human individual.
He marked his presence in public national life by the principles of ethics at the service of others and by the humanist values in which his beliefs always lay. He fought hard for a democracy in Portugal and acted decisively in the consolidation of our Rule of Law.
He shall be remembered as a civic example of a personality who dedicated his wisdom, his integrity and his vast experience at the service of the Portuguese.
