The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of plastic artist Nadir Afonso.
Following is the text of the message from President Cavaco Silva:
“I was deeply touched upon being advised of the passing away of Nadir Afonso, painter, architect, professor and one of the relevant names of contemporary Portuguese culture.
Whether through the originality and pioneering quality of his work, or through his profound thoughts on the plastic arts, Nadir Afonso was decisively an emblematic marker of 20th century painting and, in addition, contributed towards the international assertion of our culture.
On behalf of the Portuguese and in my own personal name, I extend to the bereaved Family our heartfelt condolences.
