The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the King of Spain, D. Juan Carlos, over the victims of the railway accident occurred in Galicia.
Following is the text of the message of condolences from President Cavaco Silva:
“Majesty, my Dear Friend,
I was deeply grieved when I was told the news of the tragic railway accident that occurred last night in Santiago de Compostela. I want to communicate to Your Majesty and to the People of Spain, on behalf of the Portuguese People and in my own personal name, our feelings of deepest regret and the expression of our heartfelt solidarity.
In this difficult moment, our thoughts go to all those who were affected and, in particular, to those who suffered the loss of human lives, to whom we beg Your Majesty to send on our most sincere condolences.
I beg you, Majesty, to accept the expression of my consideration and my highest regard and personal esteem.
