The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences upon the passing away of Cape-Verde songster Adriano Gonçalves (Bana) and to his Cape Verde Counterpart, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, and to the Family of the deceased.
Following is the text of the message from President Cavaco Silva:
“I was very distressed when I received the news of the passing away of songster Adriano Gonçalves, better known by his stage name “Bana”, with which he became famous as an interpreter of the music of Cape Verde.
Having lived in Portugal for many decades, Bana was one of the artists that furthered the music of Cape Verde, especially the “morna”, one of the better internationally known expressions of the Portuguese speaking area of influence.
On behalf of the Portuguese and in my personal name, I address the President of the Republic of Cape Verde and to the bereaved Family my deepest condolences.
Aníbal Cavaco Silva”
