The President of the Republic addressed a message of congratulations to poet Nuno Júdice, who has been awarded the Queen Sofia Prize for Iberian-American Poetry.
Following is the text of the message from President Cavaco Silva:
“Upon being advised of the award of the Queen Sofia Prize for Iberian-American Poetry to Nuno Júdice, I warmly congratulate the prize winner and state how pleased I am with this evidence of international recognition achieved by his literary work.
Nuno Júdice’s work is one of the most original and consistent in the Portuguese literary panorama. Throughout the last decades, his books have been translated both in Europe and in Latin-America, and literary criticism has not been spare in praising him. The Queen Sofia Prize is, for this reason, the consecration of a course that has been marked by creativity, rigour and the assertion of an unmistakable style.
On behalf of the Portuguese and in my own personal name, I most sincerely congratulate Nuno Júdice for this tribute to his poetry.
Aníbal Cavaco Silva”
