The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of Professor Doctor Armando Marques Guedes.

Following is the text of the message of condolences sent by President Cavaco Silva:

“Upon being advised of the passing away of Professor Doctor Armando Marques Guedes, I address the bereaved family my heartfelt condolences.

An eminent Professor of the University of Lisbon Law School, first President of the Constitutional Court, and a foremost master of jurisprudence, Professor Doctor Armando Marques Guedes was a Teacher of many generations. All who had the privilege of his acquaintance will recall his affability, his great wisdom, how exemplarily dedicated he was to constitutional justice, and his innate qualities as a professor as well as his great sense of State in the exercise of public office.

We should honour his memory, the memory of an upright Portuguese, who bequeaths us all a record of dignity, moral rectitude and love for his Country.
