President Cavaco Silva sent condolences to the Family of author Antonio Tabucchi

The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of author Antonio Tabucchi.

Following is the text of the message from President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:

“Having received the sad news of the passing away of author Antonio Tabucchi, I address my deepest condolences to his Family and friends.

Tabucchi was not just a universally known author, but also a good friend of our Country and with great fondness for our culture, which he enriched and disseminated through his novels.

Although never forgetting his native Italy, Antonio Tabucchi saw Portugal as his favourite theme and interpreted our history and our people as very few were able to.

In this hour of mourning i want, on behalf of all the Portuguese and in my own personal name, to render our tribute to author Antonio Tabucchi, who was taken away from us today.

Aníbal Cavaco Silva”
