The President of the Republic addressed a message to the President of the Federal Republic of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lulla da Silva, on the occasion of the country’s National Day.
Following is the text of the message:
“Mister President and Dear Friend,
On the occasion of the celebrations of the National Day of the Federal Republic of Brazil I am particularly pleased to address Your Excellency, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our warmest congratulations and our most sincere wishes for the prosperity of the People of Brazil.
Linked by the deepest of bonds, based upon the share of a common language and History, our two brethren peoples enjoy today a wide framework of relations which are developed at multiple levels, interpreting a valuable strategic partnership for both Countries. A partnership which is equally reflected in the growing concert of our positions at international level and in the commitment we share in the ongoing deepening of the Community of language and values represented by the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).
While renewing my congratulations I want to reiterate with Your Excellency my firm personal drive in the strengthening of the relations that link us, begging you to accept, Mister President and dear Friend, my feelings of deepest consideration and personal esteem.
