The President of the Republic showed his appreciation for the appointment of Dr. Vítor Constâncio to the office of Vice President of the European Central Bank.
Following is the text of President Aníbal Cavaco Silva’s note:
“The President of the Republic is deeply appreciative with the decision of the Council of the Economic and Finance Ministers of the European Union in appointing Dr. Vítor Constâncio to the office of Vice President of the European Central Bank.
The President of the Republic considers that the important challenges which face the European Union, specifically the Economic and Monetary Union, demand a joint and forceful answer, leaving no doubts as to everybody’s endeavour for the continued success of the European integration process.
President Cavaco Silva is certain that the experience and personal qualities of Dr. Vítor Constâncio will greatly contribute towards attaining this objective, which is the guarantee of the well being and prosperity of all Europeans. "
