The President of the Republic addressed a congratulatory message to the President of the Federal republic of Brazil, on Brazil’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
Following is the text of the message from President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:
"Mister President and Dear Friend,
On being advised of the very expressive election of Brazil as a non-permanent member of the Security Council of the United Nations for the two year period 2010-2011, I am very pleased to address Your Excellency, in my own personal name and on behalf of the People of Portugal, our warmest congratulations.
The success of Brazil’s candidacy, which always had the support of my country, has recognized Brazil’s role in the international stage as well as its contribution for the development of a fairer, more prosperous and peaceful world. I am certain that this election will be an incentive for the forwarding of Brazil’s legitimate ambition to become a permanent member of this uppermost body of the United Nations.
With the fond hope of seeing you again soon, I beg you to accept, Mister President and dear Friend, my renewed congratulations and feelings of highest regard and personal esteem.
Aníbal Cavaco Silva"
