The President of the Republic sent a congratulatory message to the President-elect of the Republic of Malta, George Abela.
Following is the text of the message:
“Mister President
On the occasion of the election of Your Excellency to the high office of President of the Republic of Malta, I want to address you, on behalf of the people of Portugal and in my own personal name, our warmest congratulations and sincere wishes for your success in the functions you have been called upon to fulfil.
I am certain that in the exercise of Your Excellency’s mandate we will find renewed opportunities to deepen even further the historical bonds of friendship and the close and fruitful cooperation that link our two countries, both bilaterally and within the scope of our European partnership, to the benefit of our peoples.
Renewing my sincere congratulations, please accept, Mister President, the expression of my highest consideration and personal esteem.
