The President of the Republic sent a message to the Chinese President, Hu Jintao, on the occasion of the celebration of the National Day of China People’s Republic.
The text of the message was as follows:
"Mister President,
On the occasion of the celebrations of the National Day of the People’s Republic of China, I am very pleased to address Your Excellency, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our warmest congratulations and wishes for your personal well being, as well as for the prosperity of the Chinese People.
Linked by centuries’ old bonds of friendship and cooperation, our two countries enjoy today solid relations, structured at various levels and which, I am certain, will find new opportunities for becoming deeper in the future.
I beg you to accept, Mister President, our sincere wishes for Your Excellency’s personal happiness and of prosperity and progress for the People of China.
