Having received the sad news of the passing away of Professor Luciana Segagno Picchio, I want, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, address our deepest condolences to the grieving family.
An endowed philologist and historian with a long and notable academic career, Professor Luciana Segagno Picchio merits our recognition for the inestimable contribution given to the promotion of Portuguese culture and literature, as well as for her deep affection for Portugal and its culture. Her vast work will surely last as an unmistakeable reference in the world of arts, continuing to contribute, as such, to the study and dissemination of the literary heritage of the Portuguese language.
