Message addressed by the President of the Portuguese Republic to the President of the People’s Republic of China, Hu Jintao, on the tragic effects of the earthquake suffered by the country

Mister President,

I was deeply concerned when advised of the violent earthquake that was devastatingly felt in the Province of Sichuan, causing a huge loss in human lives as well as enormous material damage.

In this hour of pain, I wish to transmit to Your Excellency and to the People of China, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our deepest condolences as well as the expression of our feelings of solidarity.
