The President of the Republic decorated the City of Guimarães with the grade of Honorary Member of the Order of Sant’Iago da Espada, thus emphasizing the role played by the city as a relevant cultural centre, mainly due to the artistic and scientific events carried out in the last decades.

Ambassador Fernando Alberty Tavares de Carvalho
The President of the Republic received, in audience, Ambassador Fernando Alberty Tavares de Carvalho, to whom he handed the letters credential as the new Portuguese diplomatic representative in Havana, Republic of Cuba.

Planting trees
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva visited the Tropical Botanical Garden, in Lisbon, where they planted two trees on the day marking the 100th anniversary of the plantation of trees in the Garden by the first President of the Republic, Manuel Arriaga and his Wife.
Seminar in the Bank of Portugal
The President of the Republic presided at the Closing Session of the Seminar “Social Economy, Employment and Local Development”, promoted by Caritas Portugal, Centre for National Culture and IPI Consulting Network Portugal, held in the Auditorium of the Head Office of the Bank of Portugal, in Lisbon, during which he delivered an address.
