1 – On August 24, 2007, the President of the Republic decided not to enact the Parliamentary decree that approved the terms of the extra-contractual third party liability of the State and remaining public bodies. In the message then sent to Parliament, the President of the Republic specifically made clear the reasons for his decision, which essentially derive from the need to find legislative remedies that, without placing at risk the liability of the State or its officers and the legitimate rights of the people, adequately safeguard the various public interests under consideration. Toasting the European Union-African partnership
The President of the Republic hosted, in the Palace of Ajuda, an official banquet in honour of the Delegations taking part in the European Union-African Summit.
Exhibition open to the public
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva officially opened, in the Palace of Belém, the exhibition “Sights over the Infant Jesus”, the Christmas Tree and the Christmas Supper Table.
Communications Conference
The President of the Republic presided, in the Estoril Conference Centre, to the Closing Session of the Communications Conference, organized by the Portuguese Association for the Development of Communications (APDC), where he addressed a speech.
Audience in Belém
The President of the Republic received, in audience, a deputation of BusinessEurope (Union of the Industrial Confederations of Europe).
The Supreme Council for National Defence met, in an ordinary session, under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic.
Abertura da Cimeira
President Cavaco Silva presided at the Opening Ceremony of the African-European Youth Summit, which was held in the Ismaili Centre, where he delivered a speech.
Audience in Belém
The President of the Republic received, in audience, a deputation of the Scientific Committee of the Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe.
The President of the Republic requested today, from the Constitutional Court, the preventive supervision of several provisions in the legislation issued by Parliament which establish conditions for the binding, the careers and the remuneration of workers in public office.
Academy of Science
The President of the Republic delivered a speech when presiding at the 1st Commemorative Session of the Departure of the Royal Family to Brazil, which took place in the Hall of Honour of the Academy of Science.
