At the beginning of a number of visits to social solidarity institutions, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva were welcomed in the Quinta da Tornada Therapeutic Centre, a unit pertaining to the Life and Peace Community, located in Venda do Pinheiro, Mafra.

The President of the Republic presided at the inaugural ceremony, in Vila do Conde, of the Ship “Vila do Conde”, a replica of a 16th century ship.
Signing of Protocol
The President of the Republic assisted at the signature of a Protocol between the Matosinhos County Council, the Schools of the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and Enterprises located in the County and ADEIMA (Matosinhos Association for Integrated Development), for the implementation of a partnership project for the strategy to combat schools’ failure rate, within the framework of EPIS – Entrepreneurs for Social Inclusiveness.
Visit to the Church of Bom Jesus
The President of the Republic visited the Holy Almshouse of Bom Jesus de Matosinhos and its Religious Art Museum, an institution which is celebrating its 400th anniversary.
Mário Montalvão Machado decorated
President Cavaco Silva decorated the Porto lawyer Mário Júlio Montalvão Machado, with the Grand Cross of the Order of Freedom.
Municipal Library
The President of the Republic presided at the inaugural ceremony of the Ferreira de Castro Municipal Library, in Oliveira de Azeméis, where he uncovered a plaque alluding to the occasion.
Luncheon on the occasion of the Signature of the Treaty of Lisbon
The President of the Republic hosted an official luncheon, which was held in the National Coach Museum, in honour of the signatories of the Treaty of Lisbon.
