Audience to the President of East Timor
The President of the Republic received, in audience, his East Timor counterpart, José Ramos Horta, who is attending the VII Conference of Heads of State and of Government of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).
Association of Olympic Athletes
The President of the Republic received the Association of the Olympic Athletes of Portugal, who presented him with the book “Olympians of Portugal”, which includes all the Portuguese athletes awarded medals in the Olympic Games.
The President of the Republic, after having heard the political parties represented in the Region’s Parliament and the respective Speaker, set the date of 19 October 2008, for the legislative elections in the Azores Autonomous Region to be held.
Audiences in Belém
In order to set the date for the parliamentary elections in the Azores Autonomous Region, the President of the Republic received, in audience, the Representative of the Republic for the Azores and the political parties represented in the Regional Parliament: Socialist Party, Social Democrat Party and Social Democrat Centre – Popular Party.
Banquet in the Palace of Queluz
The President of the Republic hosted, in the Palace of Queluz, a banquet in honour of the Head of State of Cape Verde, Pedro Pires, as part of the programme of the latter’s state visit to Portugal.
President of Cape Verde in Belém
At the start of the official visit to Portugal of the President of the Republic of Cape Verde, President Aníbal Cavaco Silva received his counterpart, with whom he held a working meeting, preceded by a meeting of the two presidential couples.
Terceiros Museum reopened
During a visit to Ponte de Lima, the President of the Republic attended the inaugural ceremony of the refurbishment of the Terceiros Sacred Art Museum, following which he viewed the new facilities.
Meeting in Seide
In the Centre of “Camilian” Studies in Seide, Famalicão, the President of the Republic held a working meeting with the officers of the entrepreneurial associations of the Region of the Three Valleys (Ave, Sousa and Tâmega).
Lunch with authors of specialist papers
The President of the Republic met in Moreira de Cónegos, Guimarães, during a working lunch, with specialists and researchers who had written papers regarding the Region of the Three Valleys (Ave, Sousa and Tâmega).
Meeting with trade union leaders
Continuing his visit to the Region of the Three Valleys, the President of the Republic held a meeting with leaders of the regional trade union organizations, in the Fafe Municipal Library.
