The President of the Republic attended the official opening of the 63rd General Assembly of the United Nations, in New York, after a welcoming ceremony in the head quarters of the organization hosted by its Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon.

Joaquim Furtado received 2007 Gazette Prizes
The President of the Republic presided at the award ceremony of the 2007 Gazette prizes, annually attributed by the Journalists’ Club. The festive event took place during a dinner held in the headquarter building of Caixa Geral de Depósitos.
President with CPLP Armed Forces
The President of the Republic visited the preparation of military forces from the three branches, representing the Member States of the Community of the Portuguese Speaking People (CPLP), for the 2008 Feline Exercise.

Commemorative Ceremony of the Supreme Court of Justice
The President of the Republic presided at the Commemorative Ceremony of the 175th Anniversary of the Supreme Court of Justice, during which he delivered a speech.
D. Dinis Secondary School
The President of the Republic marked the start of the new School Year with a visit to D. Dinis Secondary School in Lisbon. The facilities of this institution were refurbished and the work has now been completed.
Joaquim Rafael Branco received in Belém
The President of the Republic received, in audience, the Prime Minister of São Tomé and Príncipe, Joaquim Rafael Branco.
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva visited the Douro International National Park, touring for an hour the Miranda do Douro Reservoir on board an ecological boat. The Miranda do Douro Gateway Project – Park Interpretation Centre was presented on the occasion.
