Lecture in Istanbul
The President of the Republic gave a lecture on the subject “Portugal’s Process of Adhesion to the European Union: An Experience”, in Bosporus University, in Istanbul, to an audience consisting of higher education professors and students.
Meeting with entrepreneurs
The President of the Republic addressed a speech when presiding at the closure of the Portugal-Turkey Economic Seminar, in Istanbul, which was held within the programme of the State Visit which is taking place at the invitation of the Turkish Head of State.
Visit to the Grand Bazaar
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva visited the Istanbul Grand Bazaar, where they had tea in the company of several members of retinue of the State Visit which is taking place to Turkey.
Concert and dinner in honour of Turkish Head of State
The President of the Republic hosted, in Istanbul, a dinner party to his Turkish counterpart and Mrs. Hayrunisa Gül, which was preceded by a “fado” concert featuring songstress Katia Guerreiro.
The President of the Republic and his Turkish counterpart, Abdullah Gül, presided at the inaugural act, in the Sabanci Foundation, Istanbul, the exhibition "Lisbon, memories of another city".
On the second day of the State Visit to Turkey, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva made a tour of the historical area of Sultanhamet, in Istanbul, the Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the Cistern of the Basilica.
Toasts between Heads of State
At the end of the first day of the State Visit to Turkey, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva were honoured with a banquet hosted by the Turkish President, Abdullah Gül, and Mrs. Hayrünnisa Gül, in the Presidential Palace.
Meeting with Deniz Baykal
Continuing his State Visit to Turkey, the President of the Republic granted an audience to the leader of the main Turkish opposition party, Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi (CHP), Deniz Baykal.
Cavaco Silva in the Turkish Parliament
The President of the Republic was received in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, in Ankara, and held a meeting with the Speaker before delivering a speech to the plenary of Parliament.
Military Honours in Ankara
The President of the Republic met with his Turkish counterpart, Abdullah Gül, in the Ankara Presidential Palace, in the first encounter between them in his State Visit to Turkey.
