The President of the Republic held meetings with his Austrian counterpart, in Vienna, at the start of his Official Visit to Austria.
After a meeting between the Presidents and their respective wives, the two Heads of State held a meeting together with the deputations of both countries.
Meeting upon arrival in Vienna
On the eve of starting an Official Visit to Austria at the invitation of his counterpart Heinz Fischer, the President of the Republic met with a group of the Community of Austrian citizens who were given shelter by Portuguese families after the Second World War.
Waterfall Garden refurbished
The Presidency of the Republic presided at the inaugural act the refurbishment work carried out in the Waterfall Garden and former aviary of the Palace of Belém, a ceremony celebrated by the performance of the opera "Dido and Aeneas", by Henry Purcell, produced by the São Carlos Theatre company.
In the terms of article No. 133, item n), of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic, the President of the Republic appointed Dr. Vítor Bento as a member of the Council of State.
President receives the President Estonian
The President of the Republic met his Estonian counterpart, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, at the beginning of a working visit to Portugal of this Head of State.

Inaugural act
The President of the Republic attended the inaugural act of the exhibition “Encompassing the Globe – Portugal and the World in the 16th and 17th centuries”, on show in the National Fine Arts Museum, in Lisbon.
The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva will carry out an Official Visit to Austria at the invitation of President Heinz Fischer, from 23 to 26 July instant, which will include the cities of Vienna and Salzburg.
