With regard to a news item published today, in accordance with which the law relating to the re-privatization of Banco Português de Negócios awaits a decision from the President of the Republic, the following is made clear:

The President of the Republic addressed a New Year Message to the Portuguese.
The President of the Republic enacted today the second amendment to the 2009 State Budget (Budget Amendment) – Parliamentary Decree No. 5/XI, which alters Law No. 64-A/2008, dated 31 December - which was received in the Presidency of the Republic on 23 December 2009.
1. The President of the Republic enacted today Parliamentary Decree No. 4/XI which, approved on 11 December, was received in the Presidency of the Republic on 21 December. This bill approves the first alteration to Law No. 110/2009, dated 16 September, (which approved the Code of Contributory Procedures of the Social Security Providential System), establishing a new date for its coming into force.

President received Season’s Greetings
The Prime Minister and members of the Government were received by the President of the Republic, to whom they presented the Season’s Greetings.
The President of the Republic decided not to enact the Parliamentary bill which revoked the rules that created and determined the value of compensation rates for access to hospitalization or surgical acts for out-patients.
Regarding this decision, the Presidency of the Republic publishes the following communiqué:

Having received, to be enacted in law, Parliamentary Decree No. 1/XL, which revokes article No. 148 of Law No. 53-A/2006, dated 29 December, «State Budget for 2007», which creates compensation rates for access to hospitalization and for surgical acts for out-patients, and revokes article No. 160 of Law No. 64-A/2008, dated 31 December, «State Budget for 2009», which alters the value of the compensation rate for surgical acts for our-patients, I have decided, in the terms of article 136 of the Constitution of the Republic, not to enact the said bill, based upon the following:
Meeting in Belém
In the terms of the Constitution and the legislation in force, the President of the Republic received today the Minister of Justice to decide upon the traditional pardons granted at this time of the year.
Christmas in the Palace of Belém
The staff of the Presidency of the Republic and their families took part in a Christmas Party held in the Palace of Belém, which included the presentation of the musical show “The Wizard of Oz”, by the Filipe La Feria theatrical company, on show in the Politeama Theatre.
